Trauma and PTSD
Trauma is the response to a deeply distressing event that leaves one unable to cope, diminishing one's sense of self and their ability to feel and experience life as they did before. Emotional signs of trauma include sadness, anger, denial, fear and shame. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can occur after someone has experienced trauma. Signs of PTSD include reliving the traumatic event, avoiding reminders of the traumatic event, feeling constantly on guard, insomnia and negative feelings and emotions among others. There are several therapy approaches that have been found to be effective in healing trauma and PTSD. We will explore the approach that works best for you. There is no need to let trauma keep you stuck in pain and emotional distress.
Recovery from Abuse
Abuse is the mistreatment and deliberate harm of another person and can come in many forms. It can be physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, financial and can incorporate several other types of mistreatment and cruelty. Abuse in any form is extremely harmful and devastating for survivors. Narcissistic abuse is normally perpetrated by individuals that meet the diagnostic criteria for Cluster B Personality Disorders, which includes Narcissistic Personality Disorder. This type of abuse is characterized by high levels of coercion, manipulation, control, threats, intimidation and aggression as well as a lack of empathy or remorse on the part of the perpetrator. Following abuse of this kind, it is common for survivors to suffer from symptoms that are indicative of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in addition to anxiety, depression and other conditions. If you have survived this type of relationship or any form of abuse, therapy can help you heal and regain a sense of yourself again.
Adult Survivors of Childhood Adverse Experiences (ACES)
Adverse childhood experiences (ACES) are traumatic events that occur in childhood. They can include experiencing violence, abuse, neglect, witnessing violence in the home or community, having a family member attempt or die by suicide or having parents that were addicted to substances, were incarcerated or had mental health problems. They can be linked to chronic health problems, mental illness, substance misuse and other negative outcomes in adulthood if left untreated. Therapy can help adult survivors of childhood adversity develop coping skills and heal from these painful experiences. Do not let what happened to you as a child rob you of the ability to reach your fullest potential as an adult.

There is plenty of evidence to show that therapy not only helps improve symptoms that cause emotional distress but that in therapy one can develop tools and resources that continue to be useful for daily life and situations that occur long after therapy ends.
